What causes wrinkles?
Wrinkles can be divided into two categories, dynamic and static.
Dynamic wrinkles are caused by us moving our muscles when we smile, laugh or frown. When we are young, our skin will spring back to its original position, but as we get older this does not happen and we end up with lines and wrinkles on our face.
Static wrinkles are wrinkles and lines that are present when we are not forming facial expressions. As we age, natural substances such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid decrease. It is the presence of these substances in our skin that helps our skin to remain wrinkle free and hence without these present, our skin is less able to spring back to its initial position and we get fine lines and wrinkles on our face.
What treatments can I have if I already have these fine lines and wrinkles?
As well as looking after your skin by applying a good quality moisturiser and staying out of the sun, there are several different cosmetic procedures that you can have done. The injection of muscle relaxants and dermal fillers can make a huge difference to the way that you look.
These two types of cosmetic injection can be used separately or together in the
treatment of facial wrinkles. Injectable muscle relaxants work by relaxing the muscles that we use to make the lines and wrinkles on our face. Now when you frown or squint, you cannot contract the muscle to make a wrinkle and eventually your present wrinkles will be smoothed out and new ones will not form.
Injectable dermal fillers work by plumping up the lines and wrinkles. Types of dermal fillers are collagen and hyaluronic acid. By injecting these substances under the skin, your lines and wrinkles are plumped out, resulting in a much more youthful appearance.
Treatments last for at least 12 months and you can resume your normal activities immediately following facial injections.
These fillers are excellent for lip enhancement and lip augmentation to enhance the contour and definition of the lips and to increase the lip volume.
